One of my favorite things about working with clay is it's versatility...
My Kohiki Tree Vases and Burnished Bowls accentuate the raw, natural beauty of the clay that they are created with...

Kohiki Slip

The surface texture of this vase was hand formed with an energetically painted white slip, which under stress creates a unique crackle effect that reveals the richness of the clay below.

Each tree is hand sculpted, attached, undercut and treated with an iron oxide wash to create shadow and depth.

Maple Crowned Burnished Bowls

Each maple leaf is carefully stamped, cut and sculpted by hand from an original print.  The exterior is treated with Spanish red iron oxide and burnished to accentuate the richness of the raw clay....the inside is glazed with dinnerware safe glazes that mimic the harvest forest floor.... mottled yellow with hints of green and burgundy.

                 Burlap & Lace Bowl

Picture
This burlap and lace bowl is hand formed with a free flowing rim and is constructed from slabs of clay with contrasting textile textures. The burnished exterior is warmed by the subtlety of Spanish red iron oxide to give the senses a light taste of worn leather.

I use a variety of antique lace patterns to texture slabs of clay that I use to construct hand-built functional bowls.  Forever preserving the creations of knitters and crocheters of the past.
